While city folk sleep they gallop at dawn, as race tracks around the nation burst into life.

In the small Queensland country town of Beaudesert, horse floats creep beside the foggy lagoon and empty their cargo of thoroughbreds to waiting trainers, track riders and strappers.

The steaming coffee and bacon sandwich must wait.

‘They Gallop at Dawn’ relates the experiences of brave, daring men and women of a country race track. Deeds such as swimming horses to safety during a mammoth flood, or a young mother beginning her jockey apprenticeship at the age of forty’.

Stories and photographs of 26 people associated with the thoroughbred horse racing industry in a small country Queensland township.
