With a background in accounting and managing credit unions, Barry commenced his photography in 1996 by joining the local camera club.
After studying photography at colleges and Tafe in Brisbane, he then in 2001 established the business Mystique Of Images and became a member of the Australian Institute Professional Photographers (AIPP) in 2002.
He has gained recognition of his portrait photography both at national and international levels.
In 2009 he was a winner in the Portrait Division (professional photographers section) of the Black & White Spider Awards. This competition, conducted in London and New York was judged by 39 leading art galleries throughout the world including Sotherbys and Tate Galleries of London, Magnum Magazine of New York and Galerie Baudon of Paris to name just a few.
Since the end of 2007, after closing his studio in Brisbane, Barry has accompanied many photographers’ tours to Vietnam and Cambodia, assisting photographers to understand their equipment whilst enjoying the opportunity to photograph the diverse cultures, people and landscapes of these two amazing countries.
Barry, through his photography tours and with donations of others has supported over that last three years, a small school of sixty children in the highlands of North Vietnam.
Although retired from commercial photography, Barry continues to tutor on all aspects of photography and as an accredited judge of photography for the Photographic Society of Queensland Inc., is able to share his knowledge of photography with club members throughout Queensland and Northern NSW during his visits to the camera clubs.

‘Les Contours de la Figure’ The first depicting the characters that train, race,
and own thoroughbred horses at a country race track. The second, a collection of
He is currently working on two more books which, through his photography, depict the life, culture and environment of two areas in Vietnam. One in Central Vietnam and the other in the mountainous border region of Northern Vietnam.
The Consul General of Vietnam to Australia has written the Foreword to Barry’s next two books.
Barry’s photography has been exhibited in many Art Galleries in Queensland.
